SMDC integrates renewable energy systems into key developments

SM Development Corporation (SMDC) is incorporating renewable energy systems into key residential projects, signaling a shift toward sustainability that directly influences how communities function daily.

SMDC Vine Residences shows how integrated communities support more efficient and connected everyday living.

The initiative covers four developments—Style Residences, Spring Residences, South Residences, and Vine Residences—with installations focused on powering common areas. Three of these properties are located in Metro Manila, while one is in the Visayas, marking an initial rollout that reflects the developer’s broader direction toward more efficient community operations.

SMDC Spring Residences highlights a more balanced approach to community living, with spaces designed for both activity and rest.

This move follows SMDC’s partnership with renewable energy solutions provider Buskowitz, formalized in October 2025. The collaboration aims to integrate cleaner energy sources into residential environments, aligning with the growing emphasis on responsible energy use seen in global efforts such as Earth Hour.

SMDC South Residences reflects how well-designed communities support comfort, accessibility, and everyday ease

At the residential level, the impact of sustainability measures is becoming more immediate and measurable. Early projections indicate that the systems could reduce energy consumption in shared spaces by approximately 15 percent. Over time, this may contribute to more efficient building operations and help manage the portion of association dues allocated to electricity for common areas.

For residents, the implications are practical. Lower energy usage in shared spaces can translate to more manageable costs, while supporting smoother day-to-day operations within the community.

SMDC Style Residences demonstrates how thoughtful design and shared spaces enhance everyday living.

“This is really about making sustainability more tangible at the community level,” said Jessica Bianca Sy, Vice President and Head of Design, Innovation, and Strategy at SMDC. “When it starts to affect how a development operates day to day, that’s when it becomes more meaningful for residents. It’s no longer just an idea, but something they experience over time.”

The integration also reflects a broader shift in residential planning, where sustainability is increasingly embedded into how developments are designed and maintained, rather than treated as a standalone feature.

Following the pilot phase, SMDC plans to expand renewable energy adoption across future SMDC Nature developments, reinforcing its direction toward communities designed for both present needs and long-term everyday living.
