The truth of building together:  A table of leaders shaping the future

From the moment I arrived at Gloria Maris in Greenhills, I was immediately struck by the warmth and energy of the group. It was inspiring to see industry leaders exchanging ideas, sharing experiences, and reconnecting over an excellent spread of Chinese cuisine. The atmosphere was both relaxed and purposeful—a reflection of an organization built on genuine relationships and a shared commitment to elevating the Philippine construction industry.

The program opened with the Chairman’s Welcome Remarks delivered by Peter Mangasing of Unicon Wires. He spoke proudly of Invictus’ remarkable growth, highlighting how it has evolved into one of the country’s largest organizations representing construction suppliers. More importantly, he emphasized a culture of collaboration, where members work together toward a common goal of strengthening the industry and creating opportunities for all.

This was followed by the President’s Message from Aldrin Derrick Chua, MBA of Techglobal Incorporated / VESBO Pipes. Aldrin shared the inspiring journey of Invictus and how the federation has grown through the collective efforts of its members. He emphasized that Invictus is more than a professional organization—it is a community committed to organizing industry forums, educational initiatives, business networking events, and meaningful gatherings that benefit not only its members but the industry as a whole. These platforms also serve as venues for introducing innovative building materials and technologies, encouraging knowledge-sharing and continuous advancement.

What I found particularly encouraging was seeing suppliers who remain steadfast in upholding high standards of quality, reliability, and professionalism. As the construction industry continues to evolve, organizations such as Invictus play a vital role in encouraging excellence and responsible business practices among their members. An organized and united industry does more than represent its stakeholders—it helps raise standards, promotes accountability, fosters healthy competition, and ultimately elevates the entire construction sector.

Equally noteworthy was that this gathering extended far beyond suppliers alone. It brought together the broader construction ecosystem, including developers, architects, engineers, specifiers, contractors, consultants, and other key decision-makers. This diversity of participants created richer conversations and stronger opportunities for collaboration, recognizing that building a better industry requires the participation of everyone involved across the value chain.

One of the highlights of the evening was the insightful presentation by guest speaker Ar. Miguel Ocampo-Tan, who discussed the importance of diversification in today’s real estate landscape. Recognizing the challenges brought about by current economic conditions, he shared valuable perspectives on how developers can remain resilient by exploring opportunities in power, infrastructure, hospitality, and leasing. He also cited how leading construction industry players have successfully embraced diversification. A notable example is Wilcon Depot, which, beyond establishing itself as one of the country’s leading construction suppliers, has expanded its footprint into real estate and hospitality. The example underscored how strategic diversification can create new growth opportunities while strengthening long-term business resilience in an increasingly dynamic market.

As the formal program concluded, the evening naturally transitioned into lively fellowship. Conversations continued well into the night as colleagues, business partners, and friends exchanged ideas, explored new opportunities, and strengthened relationships.

I left the gathering genuinely impressed by the spirit of Invictus. It is refreshing to witness an organization where industry leaders willingly share knowledge, champion quality, and cultivate collaboration over competition. Their commitment to innovation, education, and industry development demonstrates that when suppliers are organized and aligned with developers, specifiers, and other stakeholders, everyone benefits—from businesses to end users.

It was, without a doubt, an enjoyable evening among peers and friends—one that served as a reminder that the strongest foundations are built not only with quality materials but also through shared values, meaningful partnerships, and a collective vision of building a stronger, more progressive construction industry.
